tMANS
The Multi-Scale Agent-Based Networked Simulator
tMANS Project Site at SourceForge.net

The tMANS project is developing software using a unique 5-level, multi-scale agent-based modeling approach.  Agent-based modeling offers significant advantages over "equation-based" modeling for this purpose: heterogeneity is better represented, modeling is more intuitive for non-specialists, simulations can reveal emergent behaviors, definition of agents may explicitly encompass other upper-and lower-level agents, and model techniques can be applied without prior knowledge of interactions among agents.
